A little more conversation a little less action
A long time ago we decided to move into the twenty first century and had our smart website designed which we were going to use to show off our products and to keep in touch with all of our valued customers. Like many other businesses we had good intentions but then gradually other things took over and we sort of left it as it was.
Without making excuses for ourselves, people are often surprised about how much work goes into running a small place like ours. Cooking aside, the paperwork and admin we have to do is unbelievable. Jo spends many hours tucked away in the little office we have at the back of the cafe trying to keep up with numerous tax returns, payroll, book keeping and bill paying. You will also often see my Auntie Therese heading through our kitchen into the depths of the store room and up to the office to help Jo. Therese is like a gift from God to us both. She retired from her job as a school secretary a couple of years ago and before she could get her feet up, we quickly press ganged – sorry, persuaded – her to come and help us get our chaotic paperwork sorted out. Well she certainly managed that and continues to do so, all for the price of a couple of regular lattes. A thankless task for anyone but one which she continues to do with an amazing amount of patience. If anyone is thinking of running their own business be prepared for a massive amount of red tape and always be ready to get help from as many friends and family as possible!
Anyway, rant over. We’ve finally realised that technology is passing us by so have decided to take direct action. Obviously the first stop is our website so we’ll be updating this news/blog section on a regular basis. We’ll let you know about what is going on behind the scenes, what’s going on with the various members of staff, and generally whats happening with the cafe. We will also be dropping in a few recipes, seasonal info and chefs tips for cooking at home. Just keep checking out the site or let us have your email address and we will drop you a line when anything new is on. At the moment we also have the discount voucher for you to download and print off and soon we will also have a link to a pretty exciting site that will offer you more deals which are even easier to get hold of.
We’ve also set up Facebook and Twitter accounts – both in the name of Cafe Bar One – and that really is something for us! We have pretended they didn’t exist for long enough and now its time we started keeping in touch with you on a day to day basis. This will give you even more insight into what we are doing – which One Pot Wonders we have made that day, which chef forgot to put the orders in, how bad the floorstaffs hangovers are and generally how things are going. We’ll also let you know when our offers are updated with the appropriate links to them.
So as Elvis almost said, here’s to a little more conversation and a little less action and that means from you as well. We welcome any feedback and if there’s anything you want to hear about then just give us a shout – you now have lots of ways to do it!
